General Guidelines
- ALL MATERIALS MUST BE EMPTY and CLEAN. No food residue or cross contamination (ie: aluminum foil stuck to plastic or paper labels or tape stuck to plastic film).
- A RETURNABLE item is a beverage container you have paid a deposit on. It does not include milk or milk-alternative containers.
- We encourage you to come during scheduled garbage hours and bring your presorted recycling into the container in the fenced yard. Do not leave unsorted materials outside the bin or anywhere around the site.
- Take lids/caps off EVERYTHING except motor oil and antifreeze containers. Small plastic bottle lids are not recycled and should be put in your household garbage. ALL metal lids/caps can go in the household metal recycling bin

Recyclable Materials on Thetis
- Cardboard – clean corrugated, boxboard and paper egg cartons. No waxed or plastic lined cardboard
- Mixed Paper – clean and dry newsprint, office paper/envelopes (plastic window is acceptable), magazines and directories
- Plastics – CLEAN grocery/produce bags, CLEAN numbered plastics EXCEPT #6 (expanded polystyrene - e.g. styrofoam, egg cartons, meat trays). Motor oil and antifreeze containers may be recycled, but must be separated from other plastics.
- Tin/Aluminum – clean containers, clean aluminum foil, empty and dry paint cans, metal lids from jars and bottles.
- Glass – clean bottles and jars; Remove lids and put in either household metal or (if plastic) into household garbage.
- Tetra-Pac and gable top (waxed paper) - clean milk or milk alternative containers (no soup or broth)
- Other items (in small doses and when attendant on site):

- Plastic beverage containers (except milk and milk alternatives)
- Tetra and gable top beverage containers (except milk and milk alternatives)
- Boxed wine (must include bag)

Not Recyclable on Thetis

- Personal hygiene items (ie: toothbrushes and hairbrushes)
- #6 Styrofoam or expanded polystyrene products
- Plastic wrap (Handi-wrap, Glad wrap, etc)

- Soiled tissues, paper towels or napkins

Bins are open to accept HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE ONLY (CVRD bylaw #2108).
This does NOT include the following items that are recyclable on Thetis:

It also does NOT INCLUDE ITEMS THAT ARE RETURNABLE – which may be sorted at the 24/7 site (drive thru)
NOT ACCEPTED AT THIS SITE:
- Construction waste (drywall, wood, roofing, etc.) - take to a CVRD disposal site
- Flammable Liquids (gasoline, etc.) - take to Cowichan Bottle Depot
